Welcome to the 8th Annual International Conference of the Canadian Proteomics Initiative.
Christoph H. Borchers, Ph. D, Chair, CPI 08 Conference
As the Chair of the CPI 2008 Conference, I am pleased to invite you to join us May 3-5th in Vancouver, British Columbia. Vancouver, the largest metropolitan area in western Canada, is known for its beautiful natural setting amongst the Pacific Ocean and the Cascade Mountain range and has become a major tourist destination. Distinguished by its ethnical diversity, unique backdrop and rapidly growing population, Vancouver offers a wide range of activities for visitors. The CPI 2008 Conference will be held at the Hilton Vancouver Metrotown, located next to BC's largest shopping mall with convenient transportation to downtown and Vancouver harbour..
In tradition with past CPI Conferences, the format for CPI 2008 will be based on a multi-disciplinary theme featuring lectures from national and international leaders in the field. Poster presentations, student poster awards (travel fellowships), and selected oral presentations from posters will also be a major focus of the Conference. The scope of this year's Conference includes the development and application of novel experimental and computational methods for studying human & clinical proteomics, membrane & receptor proteomics, plant & animal proteomics, and structural proteomics. Two days of hands-on proteomics educational tutorials at the University of Victoria Genome BC Proteomics Centre and the University of British Columbia will precede the conference. These workshops offer a great opportunity for expert training and hands-on experience in Fourier Transform mass spectrometry for life sciences, quantitative proteomics, protein identification and characterization and protein separation and purification.
A prominent theme emerging from this Conference will be the expansion of the Canadian Proteomics Initiative to the Canadian Proteomics Organization which is envisioned as a strong affiliate to HUPO. We are extremely pleased to present Dr. Rolf Apweiler, President of the Human Proteomics Organization, as a keynote speaker. Dr. Apweiler will speak of the strength of proteomics in Canada and the importance to HUPO.
Finally, I would like to acknowledge Dr. David Wishart and Dr. Joel Weiner, founders of the Canadian Proteomics Initiative, for their contributions and dedication to previous CPI Conferences. We are looking forward to seeing you at CPI 2008 in Vancouver, BC.
Sincerely,
Christoph Borchers
